Stormers vs DV Vikings report

Stormers vs. Don Valley Vikings.

A very hot day led to some pretty poor ice conditions with lots of standing water and extremely high temperatures inside the rink for this game. Still the Stormers, not to be deterred, came out strong against one of the toughest opponents we have played in a while. Some pretty passing from the team kept the pressure on until Lewis scored the first just shy of the ten minute mark. Probably the best shift I’ve seen us play netted three goals in under a minute, one from Jase and another two from Lewis who was setting out to have one heck of a game. An unfortunate blunder by yours truly netted one back for the Vikings before the period ended (and I still contest it was because of the bad ice!) 4-1 Stormers end of 1st.

The Vikings came out of the break and got an early power play. Converting off the first face off with a shot from the point they took one back. It was quickly countered with one back from Jase though as the play kept swinging back and forth. Jase completed his hat trick minutes later and was followed by goals from Kyle and another(!) from Lewis before the buzzer. In testament to the game however these goals were retaliated each time by the Vikings who were having a much stronger second period. 8-5 end of 2nd.

The heat was hitting everyone hard but a dry cut of the ice gave everyone some much needed rest and improved the ice conditions somewhat going into the 3rd. Within 15 seconds Stian had netted one to get the Stormers off the a promising start. Another two mins later from a very deserved Ash who had played a very strong game. Diddy then came in to net a top corner back hand for a beautiful killing blow to the Vikings. Or so we thought. The Vikings, not to be defeated, netted two more in the last ten as fatigue started wearing in. Not to be outdone Jonny Yorston, hearing the crowd counting down the clock and urging him to shoot, found the net with 1 second remaining on the clock. All that was left was one ceremonial puck drop and both teams left heads held high.

Final score 12-7.

Man of the match – David Grey
Captains choice – Tom Selby

Well done guys another great victory in our very busy schedule. Let’s keep it rolling into next weeks cup game. Thanks to the swags, timekeepers and DV Vikings for a great game, and to the growing fan base for coming down and supporting your local team (although giving how many games we are winning lately you may just be glory supporters!).
